William Tell: The history of liberty and independence of Switzerland

With the opening of the Gotthard Pass at the beginning of the 13th c., the region around the forest site (now Lucerne) is also strategically and economically interesting. Therefore, the Habsburgs increased their ownership claim to the area around Lake Lucerne. They sent Vögte into the country by the Urner, Schwyzer and Unterwaldner oppressed and massive tax abkassierten.

That let the upright men of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden not stand. On the Rütli was 1291, the Confederation of Urkantone by the Rütli Oath sealed. Under the leadership of Werner Stauffacher of Schwyz, Arnold Melchtal from Unterwalden and Walter Lord Uri connect from the three cities to the forest violent Austrian Landvögte Gessler and Landenberg distribute.

William Tell is at that time Berbauer and lives in the steep rugged Schächental. Born in Bürglen (Canton of Uri), he lives on the Schochen country from his father after his death took over. The steep Bergheimelti the strongly-built site with his family farm is surrounded by high mountains with bright white snow peaks. Tells work is hard but it is sufficient to cover all hungry yaps in the house to plug. To always enough food on the table is to have the Willi (as his friends called) often encountered on the hunt. With his crossbow, he is an excellent marksman. Wilhelm Tell enjoys the reputation far beyond his village, the best and treffsicherste Armbrustschütze far and wide to be. There is no hunting on the nimble chamois and no hackenschlagender rabbit is not afraid Tells crossbow floor.

Despite the austere life is William Tell satisfied with himself and the World. His wife Hedwig had him two wonderful sons, named Walter and Wilhelm gift. The guys prepared the William Tell and his wife Hedwig much joy.

As always rises once every month Wilhelm Tell down to the valley to its purchases in the near Altdorf operations.

Today accompanied his son Walter Tell the father to the nearby Altdorf.

Like him by his neighbors has governed the Vogt Hermann Gessler in Altdorf harder and more brutal. That was a sharp dog. The Vogt is a great oppressor against the Urner nation. So he always thinks new Miss deeds from his subjects to torture.

In the market place has arrived in Altdorf lively bustle around the main square. Club tent are also soldiers of Vogts to see.

The middle of the market place is also a bar where a hat on it. This hat is all subjects of Vogtes greet as if Vogt of it personally. But Wilhelm Tell thinks nothing of such absurd laws.

He goes on pole carelessly over and cares not about the hat of the country Vogt Gesslers. He is ungently from the soldiers the hat on the pile guard paused: "Hey Bauer Vogt greet your country!" It contends William Tell: "I see only a hat, no Vogt Gessler I have seen since, I am not deceiving and grüss no hat!" Now the soldiers are angry, and the pack is not wehrenden Wilhelm Tell and keep him. In the meantime, a Volksauflauf around Wilhelm Tell.

The herbeigerufene Hermann Gessler appear after a short time and put the recalcitrant builder to speech.

The Vogt recognizes the farmer and good shooters Tell. Tell why missachtest du my laws?.

Tell: "Why should I use a rod with hat greet. Irr That is!"

Erzürnt about such boldness orders of the country Vogt Gessler the renewed seizure and arrest of William Tell. This is all about William Tell is taken without a fight. That enraged the country Vogt Gessler more. Only now recognizes the Habsburg Vogt, the author's son, Walter has it. Even the little Walter Vogt Gessler country can take. To Tell from the reserve to attract conceives of the tyrannical country Vogt adds makaberes game.

An adjustment addressed: "Tell you are but a Weiterum renowned marksman. You can move your freedom with your crossbow with a good shot gain." Gessler langt in the saddle bag and pulls a juicy red apple.

"You only have to meet these apple." They think the master gunner William Tell, "the schaff I had with links."

But parking is not with the passage of dark thoughts Gessler expected.

This orders Tells son Walter at the 80 meters away to Linde. Then, the country Vogt to Walter and sets the apple on his head. Then Gessler speaks to Tell involved: "This apple on the head of your son Walter is your goal. Beside If you shoot your son will die. Otherwise, when you meet the apple are you and your son a free man"

Wilhelm Tell nothing else is left takes his crossbow at hand. He takes two Peile out of the quiver. The one he hand next to him, and the other stretches in the crossbow. Then, it highlights the crossbow and aimed at the apple on Walters head. The otherwise safe Armbrustschütze Wilhelm Tell trembles, and before his eyes verblast and flickers of the apple. Tell must settle and the second arrow moves closer to the bargain. Again, Wilhelm Tell the crossbow. Tell sweat is on the forehead. After a long time he pulls seek the withdrawal of his crossbow. Tells draws a straight arrow railway on the apple. Tells arrow hits the apple in the middle asunder. A true champion shot.

The people are happy and rejoicing around with settings. This grabs the second arrow, and this will inconspicuously in his quiver care.

Gessler of his face will not lose speaks to the William Tell: "Congratulations! A good marksman shot Tell and as promised, you now a free subject. But let me know what you think by the second arrow in a sense had?"

That raised Tell replied: "When my first shot fails would be gone and my son Walter had taken so had my second arrow you certainly taken as true, I Tell hot." Erzürnt whether such boldness let the angry Landvogt site again and again seize arrest. To Tell Gessler, she says: "In my castle in Küssnacht whether you can answer your bold thinking to you like the skin on your old bones.

Gessler, the Urnerland no friends, and his will Wilhelm Tell prisoners as soon as possible Altdorf. Despite storm warning for dryer can be Gessler ship in Flüelen clear. Gesslers soldiers grumble so quietly to herself, but sailing on Lake Lucerne, with the aim of Küssnacht. Together with his prisoners Wilhelm Tell and his soldiers Hermann Gessler sails on the already turbulent Lucerne. The announced dryer tower attracts more and more. Already Soon, the sail must be confiscated, the storm is too strong. Gessler is proud that he will not return after Flüelen. Therefore, the boat people and soldiers all power in the belt of rowing. But the dryer tower is getting stronger and more powerful. It seems as if nature itself against the small boat Gesslers verschworen. The ship is threatening to capsize. The boat people and soldiers scream and tremble at your life.

Hermann Gessler gets panic and sees his bedrohtes life already be fading. He shouts to William Tell: "Tell you are extremely strong but a super sailor. Rescue us, and go to the oars." Tell nods only imperceptibly. That leaves Gessler Wilhelm Tell unclamp. This immediately grabs the oars and shouts. Let the rocky shores of the disk on Axen controlled, this is our only salvation. "Sailors and soldiers under the leadership of William Tell row for your life. Despite sturmgepeitschten water and powerful waves at orkanartigem foehn succeeds Tell the boat against the shore to control.

Suddenly, almost on the shores of the axes in the rock plate grabs William Tell with his crossbow quiver and jump with a huge sentence to shore. It repels it with the ship Gessler agitated in the lake.

Tell knows his life is no longer worth chanterelle is, as long as Gessler still alive.

He knows what it has beaten and he durchdenkt exactly what to do. Wilhelm Tell knows the area well. Some deer and chamois, he has hunted here. Tell hurried then the shortest paths over the mountains. His goal is Küssnacht am Rigi. About Sisikon, fountains, Schwyz and Arth he rushes to the "caves alley" at Küssnacht, where he was in the country Vogt abpasst. In his safe hiding place at the Hohlgasse awaits him. Wilhelm Tell white, these hollow alley he must come. It leads otherwise no other way to Küssnacht. He lies there on the Lauer. The hour goes by. Suddenly it.

Gessler, the stormy sea but was still escape, he comes with his entourage herangeritten. Tell defines the arrow in his crossbow cope. He aims and presses. With the second arrow, he is already in Altdorf put in his quiver had erschiesst Wilhelm Tell the tyrannical country Vogt.

Tells heroic deeds were soon in the whole country around the forest site.

This act strengthened the movement for freedom and independence in the Urschweiz.

The site of forest Tells deeds aufgerüttelt turned to his Vögte and was up to the present time a free and independent nation.

Tell, then still in the bloody battle of Morgarten 1315 at the forefront for the Confederates taken. It was the Confederates of Uri and Schwyz Unterwalden a big victory against the army of knights Dukes of Habsburg. William Tell is 1354 in Schächenbach near his home while trying to rescue a child died.

We can be proud of our William Tell.

Therefore, we Wilhelm Tell in our memory an appropriate place.

Here ends the actual Wilhelm Tell history.
But the struggle for freedom continues. Wherever in the world the freedom of oppressed people, blazes the will of the people for freedom, and calls for the end of their tyrants power ...
